The Piano Teacher (La Pianiste) (2001)

Huppert is masterful as the talented pianist teaching at a French Conservatory. She demonstrates one version of the most complicated relationship between humans, that between mother and daughter. Huppert plays Erika, is presumably over the age of 40, beautiful, quite single, and as passionate, complex, dark and secretive as is the musician whose talent and genius has been nurtured and developed. This film will open your eyes and your mind and further sets the intensity through Schubert lieder, Bach, Rachmaninov, Beethoven and Chopin.
